05-10-09 Event report Ekiden 2009
For the second Acerta Brussels Ekiden, 618 teams showed up to demonstrate their team and sporting spirit this sunny past 26 September 2009. With 300 teams, the corporate world was strongly represented and for the first time ever, the fastest HR-team was also recognized and won a meet, greet & eat with Wim Vandeven and Tia Hellebaut.
A new record
The Acerta Brussels Ekiden, a relay race whereby 6 runners work together to complete the length of a marathon, set a new record qua number of participants in its second edition. Last year, 491 teams participated; this year that number was up to 618. Of the 300 participating corporate teams, four teams consisted solely out of HR colleagues. Acerta’s initiative to reward the fastest HR team with an exclusive dinner in the company of Tia Hellebaut and her husband and coach Wim Vandeven, probably had something to do with their inspiration to put on their running shoes. The price for fastest HR team went to Holcim; the price for fastest management team went to Federal Government Department for Defence. Acerta’s fastest team (the Acerta Speedteam) ended up in 30th place in the global ranking and 4th in the corporate ranking.
